Fans of Jon Jones are officially firing back at a recent petition to strip the UFC heavyweight champion with a new online petition of their own.
In case you missed it, over 170,000 fight fans have already signed a growing petition to see Jones lose his UFC heavyweight title. This comes after UFC officials have been unable to finalize a title unification bout between Jones and interim UFC heavyweight king Tom Aspinall. The hold up is entirely on Jones’ side and fight fans are tired of seeing “Bones” leave an entire division in limbo.
Can you blame them? Jones doesn’t even know if or when he’ll fight again.
While this is just a fan-made petition that holds no actual weight when it comes to Jones’ future as UFC champion it’s pretty wild that so many people have signed up to see him stripped of his belt. It’s a big indicator of how fans are feeling about Jones’ current layoff and Aspinall deserving to fight for undisputed UFC gold right now.
Earlier this week, a collection of fight fans who want to see Jones remain UFC champion created their own online petition to battle the 170,000 people calling for the title to change hands. The new petition has less than 1,000 names at the time of this writing, but that number is sure to grow.
“There is a lame petition going around that people are signing for Jon Jones to get stripped of his belt,” it reads.
“This petition is in support of Jon Jones keeping his belt. Sign it if you want Jon Jones to keep his belt.”
So, fight fans? Which petition will you be signing?
Let’s discuss!
